Big Boost for Mining and Infrastructure: Jharkhand Cabinet Clears Key Development Proposals

 

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on Monday cleared a series of key proposals aimed at boosting mining, infrastructure, irrigation and administrative reforms across the state.

Big Push for Coal Mining

The Cabinet approved mining leases for three major coal blocks. The Parbatpur Coal Block and Sitanala Coal Block in Bokaro district received clearance for coal extraction, while the Jitpur Coal Block in Godda district was allotted to M/s Terri Mining Pvt. Ltd. for mining operations over an area of nearly 500 hectares.

Emerald Mining Proposal in East Singhbhum

In a significant move for the state’s mineral sector, the Cabinet approved a proposal to seek Central Government approval for reserving 24.47 sq km of emerald-bearing mineral blocks in East Singhbhum district. The proposed reserve includes the Hariyan, Barunmuti, Chadriburu and Gudabandha blocks.

Infrastructure and Irrigation Projects Get Green Signal

The Cabinet sanctioned a revised outlay of ₹162.82 crore for converting the Namkum–Doranda Road in Ranchi into a four-lane corridor, including land acquisition and utility-shifting works.

It also approved a revised estimate of ₹947.26 crore for the long-pending Amanat Barrage Scheme in Palamu district, providing a major boost to irrigation infrastructure.

Forest and Environmental Measures

To support compensatory afforestation, 5.84 acres of land in Dhanbad district will be permanently transferred to the Forest Department. Deputy Commissioners have also been empowered to transfer government and deemed forest land for afforestation-related purposes.

Administrative and Governance Decisions

The Cabinet extended the JharNet 2.0 digital connectivity project till July 31, 2026, with an approved expenditure of ₹65.50 crore. It also cleared proposals related to employee regularisation in Bokaro and Godda collectorates, revised compensation norms for wildlife-related damages, and the formation of an Independent Panel of Experts under the Dam Safety Act.

Among legal appointments, the Cabinet granted ex-post facto approval to the appointment of Rohitashya Roy as Advocate General and approved the upgradation of a legal post to facilitate the appointment of Achyut Keshav as Senior Additional Advocate General. It also approved appointments to the post of Motor Vehicle Inspector in compliance with High Court directives.

The decisions are expected to accelerate industrial growth, strengthen infrastructure, improve governance and unlock new investment opportunities across Jharkhand.
