Godda: For years, 60-year-old Fadma Devi of Motia village lived in darkness after cataracts gradually stole her eyesight. With little income and no means to afford treatment, hope seemed distant. That changed when an eye screening camp reached her village. Referred for surgery, she received treatment free of cost—saving nearly ₹50,000. Today, she has regained her vision and her independence.

In Lobandha village, 80-year-old Prasadi Yadav faced a similar struggle. Chronic joint pain and age-related ailments had made daily life difficult, while travelling to distant hospitals was nearly impossible. Regular consultations and medicines provided through a Mobile Health Care Unit (MHCU) helped restore his health. He is now back to leading an active life in his community.

These are just two among thousands of stories emerging from Godda district, where targeted health and livelihood interventions are making a visible impact on rural lives.

Healthcare on Wheels Reaches the Last Mile

In a district where poverty, inadequate medical infrastructure and difficult terrain have long hindered access to healthcare, efforts by Adani Foundation in partnership with Adani Power Godda are bringing essential services closer to people.

Four Mobile Health Care Units are now delivering medical care directly to residents across 137 villages in Godda and Sahibganj districts, reducing the need for costly and time-consuming travel.

During FY 2025-26, these units treated more than 74,000 patients, offering health consultations, free medicines and emergency ambulance support. Women accounted for a significant share of beneficiaries. The initiative is being implemented both directly and in collaboration with HelpAge India to expand outreach and improve service delivery.

Specialist Doctors Now Closer to Rural Communities

Access to specialist healthcare has also improved significantly. Regular medical camps organized at the Motia Community Centre bring experts in gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, ophthalmology and orthopedics directly to rural residents.

Through 108 specialist camps, more than 2,400 patients received expert consultations, diagnostic support and medicines, with women and children among the largest beneficiaries.

Nutrition Support Strengthens TB Fight

Beyond medical treatment, attention is also being given to nutrition and recovery. Under the Nikshay Mitra programme, 300 tuberculosis patients in Godda and Poreyahat blocks received nutritional support kits for six months, helping improve recovery outcomes while supporting India’s TB-free mission.

Upgrading Rural Health Infrastructure

To strengthen healthcare delivery in the long term, four health sub-centres in the project area have been upgraded, while six healthcare facilities have been equipped with essential medical equipment. The improvements are expected to benefit nearly 9,000 patients annually.

Mushroom Farming Creates New Income Opportunities

Healthcare is only one part of the transformation. Livelihood generation has emerged as another key pillar of development.

Training and starter kits provided to 300 farmers across eight villages helped launch mushroom cultivation as an additional source of income. The programme generated more than 15,000 kilograms of mushrooms, creating new earning opportunities for rural households.

Women have played a leading role in the initiative, with several beneficiaries moving into value-added products such as mushroom pickles to boost earnings further.

Better Seeds, Bigger Harvests

To improve farm productivity, 700 farmers across 17 villages received high-quality vegetable seeds. The intervention resulted in the production of over 5,500 quintals of vegetables, increasing household incomes while also improving food security and reducing household expenses.

Skills Training Opens Doors to Employment

The Adani Skill Development Centre is equipping local youth with industry-relevant skills through courses in fitter, data entry operations and solar technology. More than 600 women have also been trained in tailoring and stitching, enabling many to start small enterprises and generate independent incomes.

Building a More Self-Reliant Future

The combined focus on healthcare, nutrition, livelihoods and skill development is helping reshape the development landscape in Godda’s rural communities. By bringing essential services closer to people and creating sustainable income opportunities, these initiatives are enabling thousands of families to build healthier, more secure and self-reliant lives.

The transformation unfolding across villages in Godda highlights how coordinated efforts between industry, communities and government can deliver meaningful change at the grassroots level.
