Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir, a proposed multi-speciality healthcare facility at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in New Town, Kolkata.

The project is being developed by the Adani Foundation and is expected to include a modern medical college along with advanced research and healthcare facilities. According to the Adani Group, the project will involve an investment of around ₹4,000 crore and is planned over approximately 51.75 acres.

1,000 Beds Planned for Economically Weaker Sections

A key feature announced for the proposed hospital is the provision of 1,000 beds for economically disadvantaged patients. These beds are expected to cater to eligible beneficiaries under state and central government health insurance schemes.

The Adani Group said the institution is intended to be a not-for-profit medical facility, with healthcare services supported by a medical college, research infrastructure and advanced care facilities.

Hospital to Serve Millions of Patients

According to the Adani Foundation’s announcement, the healthcare project is expected to cater to more than 2 lakh inpatients and over 20 lakh outpatients annually once operational. The project is also projected to generate around 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem.

The proposed institution is therefore being positioned not merely as a hospital but as an integrated healthcare and medical-education centre.

Gautam Adani Announces Larger Bengal Investment Plan

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, who attended the foundation-stone ceremony with his family, also announced a broader investment plan for West Bengal.

Adani said the group intends to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, covering sectors including ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges and ropeways, green cement and hyperscale data centres.

The announcement places the Arogya Mandir project within a much larger proposed investment programme in the state.

CM Calls Hospital Project a Major Healthcare Initiative

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari described the project as part of a broader vision for healthcare development in West Bengal. He said the proposed facility could contribute to medical tourism and described the planned campus as an integrated healthcare destination.

The foundation ceremony was attended by Gautam Adani, Adani Foundation Chairperson Priti Adani and Adani Ports Managing Director Karan Adani, besides the Chief Minister.

Healthcare and Investment at the Centre of Attention

The Adani Arogya Mandir project comes at a time when the new West Bengal government is seeking to attract large private-sector investments and expand employment opportunities in the state. The proposed hospital combines healthcare delivery, medical education and research with a significant private investment commitment.

With 2,000 beds, a proposed medical college, research facilities and 1,000 beds earmarked for economically weaker sections, the project is set to become one of the major healthcare infrastructure proposals announced in Kolkata in recent years.
