Patna: In a dramatic political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stepped down from his post on Tuesday, triggering a leadership transition in the state. He visited the Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain, who accepted it and asked him to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is formed.

Announcing his decision on social media, Kumar said a new administration would soon take charge of Bihar’s governance. He extended his support to the incoming leadership and thanked the people for their cooperation in the state’s development journey.

Samrat Choudhary Emerges as BJP’s Choice

Soon after the resignation, the Bharatiya Janata Party moved swiftly to elect its new leader. Senior BJP MLA Samrat Choudhary was unanimously chosen as the legislature party leader at a meeting in Patna, clearing the path for him to become the next Chief Minister.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, appointed as the party’s central observer, confirmed that Choudhary’s name received unanimous backing from party legislators.

Government Formation Underway

Choudhary’s leadership is expected to be formally endorsed at a joint meeting of NDA legislators in the Central Hall of the state legislature. Following this, he is set to approach the Governor to stake claim to form the new government.
