Mumbai: Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have pledged to support the refurbishment of 20 schools in Mumbai as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan, an initiative launched around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.

Alia announced the pledge on social media on September 17 while extending birthday wishes to Prime Minister Modi. She said the couple would support the refurbishment of the schools based on recommendations from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The stated aim is to create better-equipped learning spaces for children.

The initiative comes as the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan began on September 17 and is scheduled to continue until October 17. Reports said the campaign has been organised around Modi’s birthday and the completion of 25 years of his public life, with various service and welfare activities planned during the period.

Focus on school infrastructure

According to the announcement, the 20 schools will be selected in line with recommendations from the BMC. The refurbishment is intended to improve the physical learning environment and provide children with brighter and better-equipped spaces.

Alia described the campaign’s underlying idea as one of collective action and giving back, linking the couple’s contribution to the broader service-oriented initiative.

The announcement has also drawn attention because it comes from two of Bollywood’s prominent actors and places the focus on school infrastructure and children’s education rather than a conventional birthday gesture.

Several other film personalities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal and others, also shared birthday messages for Prime Minister Modi on social media.
