New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid out a seven-pronged roadmap for India’s next phase of development, calling on the country to harness what he termed “Shakti Ki Saptadhara” — seven streams of strength to accelerate growth, strengthen self-reliance and realise the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Modi said India’s stable political mandate, strong institutions and constitutional framework provide the foundation for undertaking the next generation of reforms.

“Today, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I call upon the nation to embrace ‘Shakti Ki Saptadhara’,” Modi said.

Seven streams to power India’s next growth phase

The Prime Minister identified seven key areas that, according to him, can drive India’s transformation in the years ahead:

  1. Manufacturing power
  2. Agriculture and food processing
  3. Technology and innovation
  4. Gati Shakti — infrastructure, mobility and connectivity
  5. Raksha Shakti — defence capability and security
  6. Green and blue economy
  7. India’s soft power

The framework brings together economic expansion, technological capability, infrastructure, national security, sustainability and India’s cultural influence as interconnected pillars of national strength.

Manufacturing first: Modi’s push for complete value chains

Putting manufacturing at the top of the seven-point framework, Modi stressed that India must move beyond assembling products and build end-to-end value chains within the country.

“The first strength is our manufacturing power,” the Prime Minister said.

He called for India to develop capabilities ranging from design and innovation to manufacturing, with the aim of establishing the country as a reliable global supply-chain partner.

Modi also emphasised the need for Indian industry to compete globally on cost, quality and scale, while urging MSMEs to take advantage of expanding international market opportunities.

Stable government, strong institutions

The Prime Minister also underlined political and institutional stability as an important strength for India’s development journey.

“India has a stable political mandate and a stable government,” Modi said.

He pointed to the country’s constitutional framework and judicial institutions as pillars supporting the reform process.

Modi also highlighted India’s growing engagement with global markets, saying the country had entered into Free Trade Agreements with nearly 40 countries since 2014 and urging Indian MSMEs to make greater use of such opportunities.

From infrastructure to innovation

The Gati Shakti component of the roadmap places connectivity and integrated infrastructure at the centre of economic expansion. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan was conceived to promote coordinated, multimodal infrastructure planning and connect economic zones through roads, railways, ports, airports and other networks.

Technology and innovation form another major pillar, reflecting the government’s broader push to expand India’s capabilities in emerging technologies, advanced manufacturing and digital infrastructure.

Green and blue economy, defence and soft power

The roadmap also gives strategic importance to defence capability, with greater emphasis on security and indigenous capacity.

The green and blue economy pillar links India’s development ambitions with renewable energy, environmental sustainability and the economic potential of its maritime resources. Meanwhile, soft power recognises India’s cultural, civilisational and diplomatic influence as an increasingly important element of its global standing.

A seven-stream strategy for a developed India

The Prime Minister’s Independence Day message effectively placed “Shakti Ki Saptadhara” at the centre of his latest development narrative — combining manufacturing and agriculture with technology, connectivity, defence, sustainability and soft power.

The overarching message was clear: India’s next phase of growth, Modi said, will require stronger domestic capabilities, globally competitive industries and a greater ability to turn the country’s demographic, technological and economic strengths into national power.

The seven-point framework is being positioned as a roadmap for accelerating India’s journey towards self-reliance and Viksit Bharat@2047, with the government placing particular emphasis on manufacturing, technology and the capabilities of India’s youth.
