News Desk: India and Nepal have taken a significant step towards strengthening digital financial connectivity by launching a peer-to-peer cross-border remittance mechanism that allows seamless, real-time money transfers between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the newly operationalised platform establishes a direct connection between India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Nepal’s National Payments Interface (NPI), enabling citizens to send and receive funds instantly through mobile banking applications and digital wallets.

The UPI-NPI integration is expected to deepen economic cooperation and promote financial inclusion by making cross-border transactions faster, safer and more accessible. The initiative also supports broader regional efforts to create affordable and secure payment networks across borders.

Officials said the digital payment corridor will significantly improve convenience for travellers, facilitate smoother commercial transactions, and strengthen people-to-people connections between the neighbouring countries. The system is also expected to benefit local businesses by reducing reliance on cash transactions, lowering cash-handling costs and ensuring secure, real-time settlement of payments.

The Finance Ministry noted that the initiative reinforces the long-standing social and economic relationship between India and Nepal while paving the way for greater digital and financial integration in the region.
