Bengaluru: In a significant push to bridge academia and industry, UNSW Sydney has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deloitte India to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation at its upcoming Bengaluru campus.

The partnership brings together a globally ranked top-20 university and one of India’s leading professional services networks, aiming to cultivate industry-ready talent equipped for a rapidly evolving digital economy.

Industry Meets Classroom

At the heart of the collaboration is a model that tightly integrates academic learning with real-world industry exposure. The CoE will offer students hands-on experience through live projects, workplace-based learning, and sessions led by industry practitioners. Learners will also gain access to Deloitte’s advanced infrastructure, including AI labs, cyber simulation platforms, and emerging technology ecosystems.

This initiative is expected to give students early exposure to real business challenges while sharpening their problem-solving capabilities in high-demand sectors such as artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.

Aligned with NEP 2020 Vision

The initiative aligns with India’s National Education Policy 2020, focusing on multidisciplinary learning and industry-linked education. The CoE is envisioned as a dynamic platform that combines academic excellence with innovation and industry engagement to produce globally competitive graduates.

Boost to Research and Innovation

Beyond classroom learning, the MoU paves the way for joint applied research between UNSW faculty and Deloitte experts. The collaboration will focus on solving industry-relevant problems, producing white papers, and developing innovation-driven solutions.

A dedicated startup and innovation lab will also be set up to nurture entrepreneurship among students and faculty, encouraging experimentation and enterprise-building.

Focus on Lifelong Learning

The partnership also looks beyond traditional education. Plans are underway to introduce executive education and professional development programs aimed at working professionals and corporate organisations seeking to upskill in emerging technology domains.

Leadership Speaks

Professor Sarah Maddison, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education & Student Experience) at UNSW Sydney, described the partnership as a step towards building an “industry-connected education ecosystem,” preparing students with the skills and adaptability needed for the future workforce.

Echoing this, Kamlesh Vyas, Partner at Deloitte India, said the collaboration would play a key role in strengthening India’s digital transformation journey by creating a strong pipeline of tech talent and fostering innovation-led growth.

Phased Rollout from April 2026

The collaboration will roll out in phases starting April 2026, covering academic programs, research initiatives, and industry engagement activities. The larger goal is to position India as a global technology and innovation hub by strengthening talent pipelines, advancing applied research, and supporting entrepreneurship.

Notably, UNSW Sydney is a research-intensive global institution and a founding member of Australia’s Group of Eight. Known for its strong focus on employability, innovation, and societal impact, the university continues to expand its global footprint with India emerging as a key partner in education and research.
