India Hands Over 90 Electric Buses to Mauritius, Boosts Green Partnership

New Delhi: India has expanded its development partnership with Mauritius by handing over 90 electric buses during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s official visit to the island nation.

Green Mobility Push Gains Momentum

The buses were formally presented to Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, marking a major step in promoting sustainable public transport. Jaishankar described the initiative as a “moving symbol” of the deepening green partnership between the two countries, highlighting their shared commitment to environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

Healthcare Cooperation Gets a Boost

In addition to transport cooperation, Jaishankar inaugurated a state-of-the-art Renal Transplant Unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital. The facility is expected to significantly enhance access to advanced kidney care and strengthen bilateral collaboration in the healthcare sector.

Visit Reflects India’s Strategic Outreach

The minister’s visit on April 9–10 coincided with his participation in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference. Officials stated that the trip reinforces India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its broader Vision MAHASAGAR, aimed at enhancing engagement with maritime partners and the Global South.

Next Leg: UAE Visit

Following Mauritius, Jaishankar is scheduled to visit the United Arab Emirates from April 11–12. The visit will focus on reviewing bilateral ties and advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
