Bokaro: Bokaro Steel Plant delivered a stellar performance in the financial year 2025–26, achieving historic highs across production, dispatch, and operational efficiency, reinforcing its position as a key driver of India’s steel sector.

The plant registered record outputs in multiple segments, with crude steel production from SMS-New touching an all-time high of 1.163 million tonnes. Hot Rolled (HR) Coils reached 4.267 million tonnes, while Cold Rolled (CR) saleable steel stood at 1.39 million tonnes. Finished saleable steel climbed to 4.15 million tonnes, and total saleable steel hit 4.56 million tonnes. Dispatch performance also peaked, with 4.60 million tonnes of total saleable steel and 4.18 million tonnes of finished steel dispatched—the highest ever.

Operationally, the year marked significant milestones. SMS-New achieved a record slab casting sequence of 465 heats, while the Sinter Plant delivered near-record output despite resource constraints. Key techno-economic parameters—including blast furnace productivity, coke rate, CDI rate, and energy consumption—showed notable improvements. CRM-III recorded its best performance since inception, alongside strong gains in the Coal Chemicals segment.

The plant also posted robust year-on-year growth, with crude steel production rising by 12.9%, HR Coils by 15.6%, CR steel by 18.3%, and total saleable steel by 18.1%.

In a push towards value addition and diversification, BSL successfully developed advanced steel grades, including electrical steel, high-strength automotive steel, marine-grade steel, and pressure vessel steel. The production of checkered plate coils for the first time marked its entry into new market segments.

Sustainability remained a core focus, with initiatives in resource conservation, waste recycling, and renewable energy—particularly solar power—gaining momentum as the plant moves towards its net-zero goals. Safety and digital transformation also saw major upgrades, including an AR/VR-based Safety Excellence Center and IoT-driven monitoring systems. The plant was earlier honoured with the Kalinga Safety Excellence Award.

Director-in-Charge Priya Ranjan lauded the workforce for the landmark achievements, urging them to aim higher in the new financial year with a strong focus on safety and quality. Executive Director (Works) Anup Kumar Datta also congratulated employees and emphasized continuous improvement across all fronts.

With record-breaking performance and forward-looking initiatives, Bokaro Steel Plant has set a new benchmark for operational excellence and sustainable growth in India’s steel industry.
