New Delhi: India and Bhutan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on postal cooperation, paving the way for deeper collaboration between their national postal services and strengthening cross-border connectivity.

The agreement, signed between India’s Ministry of Communications and Bhutan’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport during the ongoing visit of India’s Secretary, Department of Posts, establishes a formal framework for cooperation between India Post and Bhutan Post.

Focus on Modernisation and Connectivity

The MoU outlines joint efforts across a wide range of areas, including postal operations, logistics integration, and capacity building. It also emphasises collaboration in technology development, reflecting the growing push to modernise postal systems in both countries.

Officials said the partnership will facilitate smoother exchange of expertise, improve service delivery, and enhance connectivity between the two neighbouring nations.

Tech Sharing and Knowledge Exchange

A key highlight of the agreement is the focus on technology sharing, with Bhutan set to benefit from India Post’s expanding digital ecosystem.

Both sides agreed to exchange best practices and technical know-how, particularly in areas such as digital infrastructure, automation, and efficient mail handling systems.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The pact also includes cooperation in philately and knowledge exchange programmes, further reinforcing cultural and institutional ties.

The move is seen as part of broader efforts by India and Bhutan to deepen bilateral relations through practical partnerships that enhance service delivery and regional integration.

The MoU signals a step forward in modernising postal networks while reinforcing the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
