Geneva: The Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), a Geneva-based global media safety and rights body, has expressed deep shock and condemnation over the killing of another journalist in Pakistan’s Sindh province. The organization has called for immediate justice and adequate compensation for the victim’s family.

According to reports, Tufail Rind (40), a journalist working with a local Sindhi newspaper and secretary of the Mathelo Press Club, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mirpur Mathelo on October 8 while he was on his way to drop his children at school. Rind died on the spot, leaving behind his wife and four children.

This tragic incident follows the recent death of Imtiaz Mir, another journalist who succumbed to gunshot wounds in Karachi’s Malir area. Earlier this year, three other Pakistani media workers — Syed Mohammed Shah, Abdul Latif, and A.D. Shar — were also killed, highlighting the growing dangers faced by journalists in the country.

“Tufail Rind is the 141st journalist killed globally in 2025,” said Blaise Lempen, President of PEC. “The Pakistani authorities must swiftly apprehend the culprits and ensure justice under the law. We urge Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to personally oversee the investigation and bring the assailants to book,” he added.

The PEC reiterated its solidarity with journalists in Pakistan and around the world, emphasizing the urgent need for stronger safety mechanisms and accountability for crimes against media professionals.
