News Desk: Georgetown University professor Carol Christine Fair has landed in the spotlight after calling Donald Trump a Hindi abuse word during a live interview, just as fresh US tariffs hit India.

Speaking with Pakistani-origin British journalist Moeed Pirzada, Fair bluntly called Trump a “chu***”—a slang term for “idiot.” The exchange quickly went viral, with Pirzada laughing and admitting he often used the same word in Urdu. Fair, unfazed, repeated: “Well, he is, he is a chu**.”*

Fair warned that mass resignations in the US State Department had weakened America’s diplomacy, complicating relations with India at a critical time.

Her remark coincided with US’s decision to impose two rounds of tariffs on India—25% on account of high duties on American goods, and another 25% penalty tied to New Delhi’s continued imports of cheap Russian crude. The second phase takes effect on August 27, 2025.

India’s Russian oil imports now make up over 30% of its crude basket, with refined products exported worldwide—something US critics say indirectly finances Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Fair’s viral slur and the tariff shock have together reignited debate over the future of India–US ties amid rising geopolitical friction.
