Ranchi/Bokaro: In a decisive push for digital journalism, the Web Journalists Association of India (WJAI) on Sunday rolled out its Jharkhand unit at a meeting in Harmu, Ranchi. The announcement came with key appointments—Deepak Ojha as Executive President, Rajeev Ranjan as Vice President, and Purnendu Pushpesh as General Secretary—signalling a fresh, organized push for the state’s web media fraternity.

The appointments were approved by National General Secretary Madhup Mani PikkU on the recommendation of National President Anand Kaushal. The leadership expressed confidence that the new team will bring Jharkhand’s web and digital journalists onto a common platform and give fresh momentum to the sector.

Deepak Ojha, a familiar and respected name in Jharkhand journalism, brings with him years of diverse experience. Starting his career with India TV in Noida, he has worked with Janmat TV (now Live India), Doordarshan, PTN News Jharkhand, and Zee News Jharkhand. He has also served as Founder and Channel Head of Nakshatra News Hindi and as Editor for Bihar-Jharkhand at Sadhna News. Beyond newsroom roles, Ojha has contributed as a guest faculty member in journalism departments, including at Ranchi University.

General Secretary Purnendu Pushpesh is a seasoned journalist with nearly 35 years of experience and is associated with the daily Rashtriya MukhyaDhara. He also leads multiple digital platforms. Vice President Rajeev Ranjan, too, has long-standing experience in electronic and digital media, having worked with several media organizations.

The national leadership has directed the state unit to complete its full committee formation within 15 days and to launch an active membership drive across districts.

Speaking after his appointment, Deepak Ojha said a major media summit will soon be organized in Jharkhand, bringing together digital journalists from across the country. He also emphasized the need to work with the state government to secure better recognition and facilities for digital media professionals.

Members present at the meeting extended their best wishes to the new team, expressing hope that under Ojha’s leadership, WJAI Jharkhand will emerge as a stronger, more unified and impactful voice for web journalists in the state.
