Muzaffarpur: A live performance by Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav descended into chaos in Muzaffarpur late Wednesday evening, triggering a stampede and forcing police to resort to a lathi charge to regain control.

The incident occurred at a cattle fair organised in the Garha police station area by former minister and ex-MLA Ram Surat Rai. A massive crowd—reportedly exceeding one lakh—had gathered to watch the popular singer, overwhelming the venue’s arrangements.

Eyewitnesses said tension escalated just as Khesari Lal took the stage. Within moments of the performance beginning, sections of the crowd started hurling shoes and slippers toward the stage, creating panic and confusion. The singer was immediately escorted to safety as the situation spiralled.

With the crowd turning unruly, police intervened and carried out a lathi charge to disperse people and restore order. Several attendees reportedly fell during the stampede-like situation, though no casualties or serious injuries have been officially confirmed.

Viral videos from the scene show footwear being thrown at the stage, while police personnel are seen chasing and dispersing the crowd. Instances of vandalism and clashes among attendees were also reported amid the chaos.

The incident has raised fresh questions over event management and security preparedness. Notably, the same fair had witnessed disorder earlier this week, when a video of a scuffle between performers on stage surfaced online, sparking concerns over inadequate arrangements.

Authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement on the lapses, even as the episode adds to a growing list of crowd-control failures at large public gatherings in the region.
