Ahmedabad: The India national cricket team were crowned champions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after defeating the New Zealand national cricket team by a commanding 96 runs in the final on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, India produced a spectacular batting performance, piling up 255 for 5 in 20 overs, one of the highest totals ever in a T20 World Cup final. The Indian top order dominated the Kiwi bowling attack with aggressive stroke play and quick partnerships.

Sanju Samson led the charge with a brilliant 89 off 46 balls, smashing multiple boundaries and sixes to anchor the innings. He received strong support from Abhishek Sharma, who scored a fluent half-century, while Ishan Kishan added a rapid 54 off just 23 deliveries to accelerate the scoring rate. A late cameo from Shivam Dube in the final overs pushed India past the 250-run mark.

Chasing a daunting target of 256, New Zealand struggled to build momentum against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Although Tim Seifert fought hard with a half-century, the rest of the batting line-up failed to keep pace with the required run rate.

India’s bowlers maintained tight control throughout the innings, with Jasprit Bumrah delivering a standout spell and picking up key wickets. Support from the spin duo Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy ensured that the Black Caps never recovered from early setbacks.

New Zealand eventually fell well short of the target, handing India a massive 96-run victory and sealing the coveted world title.

The emphatic triumph sparked celebrations among millions of cricket fans across India, as the team once again showcased its dominance in the shortest format of international cricket.
