Ranchi: The Jharkhand administration has imposed a statewide liquor ban from 5 pm on February 21 to 7 am on February 24 to ensure peaceful and fair conduct of the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for February 23.

Under the official order, a complete dry day has been declared across the state, including the capital Ranchi. During this period, the sale, distribution and serving of alcohol will remain strictly prohibited.

All retail liquor outlets, bars, restaurants, retail canteens, and depots and warehouses of the Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited will remain closed. The ban will also apply to hotels, clubs and other licensed premises.

Officials said the move aims to prevent law and order issues linked to alcohol consumption during the election period. Police and excise teams have been directed to maintain strict vigil and conduct special checks.

The administration has warned that any violation of the order will invite strict legal action under relevant provisions.
