Bokaro: Reinforcing its push towards technological innovation and operational excellence, Bokaro Steel Plant has commissioned a state-of-the-art Coal Blend Catalyst Dosing Station at the Coal Handling Plant of its Coke and Coal Chemicals Department.

The new facility was inaugurated by Anoop Kumar Dutt, Executive Director (Works), in the presence of senior officials, employees, and a large number of contract workers. The occasion marked another key milestone in BSL’s journey towards modernisation and process optimisation.

Designed as a fully automated system, the catalyst dosing station ensures precise and controlled addition of catalyst in proportion to the coal feed rate on conveyor belt Y-18. Officials said the system is expected to significantly enhance coke quality while contributing to higher operational efficiency and overall plant productivity.

The project was executed under the leadership of Bhaskar Prasad, Chief General Manager (Coke and Coal Chemicals), with guidance from P. S. Kumar, General Manager and Head of Operations. Notably, the design, construction, and installation were completed entirely using in-house resources, highlighting the department’s strong technical capability, innovation-driven approach, and commitment to self-reliance.

Several senior executives were present at the inauguration, including Chief General Managers Sharad Gupta, Gulshan Kumar, Manohar Lal, Prakash Kumar, and Harsh Nigam.

General Managers Ashraf Siddiqui and Anjani Kumar, along with Assistant General Managers Raj Kumar Das, Om Prakash, and K. S. Soren, played a key role in successful execution of the project. Valuable support was also extended by central departments such as CED, Instrumentation, and Automation.

Officials said the commissioning of the Coal Blend Catalyst Dosing Station further strengthens BSL’s innovation-led work culture and underscores its commitment to continuous improvement, efficiency enhancement, and sustainable steelmaking practices.
