Bokaro: In a major boost for Indian volleyball, Dr. Jaideep Sarkar — a distinguished sports professional from Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand — has been selected as the Chief coach in the Sports Authority of India. The confirmation came from Akash Pundir, Deputy Director (HR) at the Sports Authority of India.

Dr. Sarkar, one of Jharkhand’s most celebrated volleyball minds, shot to national prominence after steering the Indian men’s team to a remarkable six-rank jump at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou 2023 — a feat widely applauded as one of the sport’s most significant breakthroughs in recent years.

Known for his multi-dimensional expertise, Dr. Sarkar is not just a coach but a visionary force in Indian sports. He serves as an Olympic Educator, General Secretary of the Khelo India–recognised Mongia National Volleyball Academy, and Advisor (Sports Coaching) at SAIL — roles through which he has shaped athletes at both grassroots and elite levels.

His international footprint is equally impressive. As the Lead Officer for the International Olympic Committee-backed Global Active City programme, he contributes to global sports development and community fitness initiatives.

With his appointment, Indian volleyball enters an exciting new chapter — driven by Dr. Sarkar’s experience, strategic finesse and a proven record of elevating teams to new heights.
