PM Modi Reaffirms Peace Stand; Putin Says Russia Seeking Ukraine Resolution

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reaffirmed India’s firm commitment to peace as he held bilateral discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Opening the meeting, PM Modi said India has remained in continuous dialogue with Russia since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict. “Since the Ukraine crisis began, we have been in constant discussion. You, as a true friend, have kept us informed from time to time. I believe trust is a great strength, and I have conveyed India’s position to you many times and before the world as well,” the Prime Minister said.

Responding to Modi’s remarks, President Putin expressed gratitude for the invitation and signalled Moscow’s willingness to explore a resolution. “Russia is working on a peaceful settlement with Ukraine. The world will only benefit if we travel on the path of peace,” Putin stated.

He also underlined the long-standing nature of the India–Russia partnership, noting that the ties are built on trust and “deeply rooted in history.”

Earlier in the day, Putin received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was greeted by President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi, and senior members of both delegations, marking the start of high-level engagements between the two nations.
