Kathmandu: In a strong gesture of friendship and solidarity, India has donated 81 school buses to educational institutions across 48 districts of Nepal, including flood-affected regions, to help restore normalcy and support students’ access to education.

According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the donation covers schools in flood-hit districts like Ilam, Jhapa, and Udayapur in Koshi Province, as well as remote areas such as Humla, Mustang, Sankhuwasabha, Darchula, Baitadi, and Achham, spread across all seven provinces of Nepal.

The Embassy noted that this initiative is part of India’s ongoing development partnership with Nepal, aimed at promoting education and strengthening grassroots connectivity between the two nations. Over the past three decades, India has provided a total of 383 school buses to various educational institutions throughout Nepal.

Earlier this month, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property due to the devastating floods in Nepal. On October 5, Modi posted on X:

“The loss of lives and damage caused by heavy rains in Nepal is distressing. We stand with the people and Government of Nepal in this difficult time. As a friendly neighbour and first responder, India remains committed to providing any assistance that may be required.”

The latest donation not only underscores India’s commitment to humanitarian aid and disaster recovery but also highlights the deep-rooted people-to-people ties between the two Himalayan neighbours.
