India Boosts Defence Power with ₹79,000 Crore Arms Procurement

New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s defence preparedness, the government on Thursday cleared arms procurement proposals worth ₹79,000 crore for the Army, Navy and Air Force. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, aimed at enhancing joint combat capability and self-reliance in defence production.

Indian Army: Enhanced Strike and Surveillance Power

The DAC approved the tracked Nag Missile System (NAMIS Mk-II), ground-based mobile ELINT systems (GBMES), and high-mobility vehicles with cranes for the Army.
The upgraded NAMIS Mk-II will significantly enhance the Army’s firepower against enemy armoured formations, bunkers and fortified positions. The GBMES will provide continuous electronic intelligence on enemy emitters, while the mobility vehicles will strengthen logistical support across rugged terrains.

Indian Navy: Amphibious and Anti-Submarine Boost

For the Navy, approvals include Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), 30 mm naval surface guns, advanced lightweight torpedoes, electro-optical IR tracking systems, and smart ammunition for the 76 mm super rapid gun mount.
The LPDs will enable joint amphibious operations and humanitarian missions, while the DRDO-developed lightweight torpedoes will bolster anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The new naval guns will upgrade India’s maritime and coastal defence, especially in counter-piracy and low-intensity operations.

Indian Air Force: Smart Autonomous Warfare Systems

The Indian Air Force will acquire the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS) — an advanced autonomous system capable of takeoff, navigation, target engagement and payload delivery. The system aims to revolutionise precision strike capabilities and expand the Air Force’s reach in high-risk zones.

According to the Defence Ministry, these acquisitions underscore India’s commitment to modernisation, indigenisation, and joint operational readiness across all three services.
