Ranchi: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Saturday confirmed that it will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections as part of the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) but made it clear that the party expects a “respectable share” of seats in the coalition.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s Ranchi camp office, JMM Central General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said the party is ready for any contest — “whether it’s Bihar or Ghatsila bypoll” — and won’t stay silent if denied its due within the alliance.

“We know how to fight elections. JMM defeated the BJP in Jharkhand on its own strength,” Bhattacharya asserted.

He reminded alliance partners that the JMM upheld coalition dharma during the Jharkhand polls by allotting seven seats to the RJD, which won only one, yet the JMM ensured that RJD’s lone MLA remained a minister for the full five years.

Sending a pointed message to allies RJD, Congress, and CPI (ML), Bhattacharya said,

“We gave them respect in Jharkhand; now it’s time for JMM to get the same respect in Bihar. We served them then — now we will serve ourselves.”
