Dhanbad: Cheers and celebrations echoed through Hirapur as Dhanbad’s very own Prachi Priya struck gold at the National Karate Championship in Bengaluru. The Class 10 champ floored her rivals in the Under-17 category of the CISCE Games and Sports 2025, defeating Karnataka 4–1 to clinch the top medal.

Prachi, who trains at XMA Academy in Dhanbad’s Mega Sports Complex, returned home to a hero’s welcome—band music, flowers, and traditional aarti from neighbors and family. Police station in-charge R.N. Thakur personally felicitated her, calling it a proud moment for the entire district.

“This victory is unforgettable. Representing my school and Dhanbad at the national stage and winning gold is a dream come true,” said an elated Prachi, dedicating her win to her coach, parents, and teachers.

Her father, Vimlesh Kumar Chauhan, called it a matter of pride for the city, adding, “A daughter’s achievement proves there’s no difference between sons and daughters.”

With the entire city celebrating, Prachi’s triumph has not only lifted her family’s spirits but also put Dhanbad on the national sports map.
