Dhanbad: Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has been elected President of Vigyan Bharati’s Jharkhand chapter during the organization’s General Body Meeting held at CSIR–CIMFR, Dhanbad. The session brought together top scientists, academicians, and industry leaders to chart the roadmap for science outreach in the state.

The new executive panel includes Dr. Chandrashekhar Dwivedi (Secretary, Central University of Jharkhand), Dr. J.K. Pandey (Vice President, CSIR–CIMFR), Prof. Dheeraj (Vice President, IIT (ISM)), Dr. M.P. Roy (Vice President, CSIR–CIMFR), Shri S.K. Kashyap (Joint Secretary), and Dr. Ravindra Shetty (Treasurer, BCCL).

In his maiden address, Prof. Mishra pledged to strengthen Vigyan Bharati’s footprint in Jharkhand through initiatives blending modern technology with India’s traditional knowledge systems. Upcoming events include an international conference on environment, mining, and energy, and a state-wide celebration of Vigyan Bharati’s Sthapana Diwas from October 21.

The meeting also saw the launch of the Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan Jharkhand brochure, with national convenor Naresh Chafekar describing it as India’s largest student science talent search.

National leaders Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Dr. N.P. Shukla praised the new committee for balancing seasoned experts with young talent, reaffirming the mission to present science through an Indian lens.
